Describing trends

Line graphs show trends which usually happen over a period of time. When you look at trends you need to look at both the whole pattern and the individual changes within it.

You could describe this by saying "the average exam scores have increased since 1985"

or

"The graph shows an increase in average exam scores from 1985 to 2005"
